Directions
Nissequogue River State Park
Walk up to Soundview Court.
There will be a playground on your right.
Make a right at the top of the hill (you’ll see what used to be a little Baseball field on your left and a canopy area on your right).
Equipment Requirements
1. A Six-foot-long leather or nylon leash (thickness should correspond to the size of the dog). No Retractable leashes
2. A training collar fitted for the individual dog. Flat buckle collars are good for calm or shy dogs. The collar must be in good condition. Other good options are front-attachment harnesses, martingales, rope slip leashes/collars, flat buckle slips are encouraged.
3. A 30-foot nylon training lead (dogs under 10 pounds may use a 15-foot lead). The training lead is used for long distance work during class. The lead must be in functional, good condition.
4. LOTS OF TREATS. At least 100 broken up, pea-sized soft treats that your dog really likes. You must have pockets or a training pouch to house the treats. Bring your dog with a strong appetite. Food should be withheld for approximately six to eight hours before class depending on the age of your puppy or dog. This will increase the drive and efficiency of your training session. If you dog is more motivated by a toy like a special ball, please feel free to bring that as well.
5. Proper shoes prevent injury. No open-toed shoes or sandals please.
6. Potty bags
7. Portable water bowl to limit germ spreading and ensure hydration on hot days.
